Caesar's Tropical Fish Factory in Santa Rosa is the kind of store that feels more like an aquatic wonderland than a retail shop. Spread across three rooms packed with tanks — plus outdoor ponds out back — it's a sprawling destination that reviewers compare to visiting a mini aquarium. Kids love wandering through; adults leave with new obsessions.
The freshwater selection is extensive, with healthy, vibrant fish across a wide range of species, from bettas to community tank staples. Saltwater enthusiasts are equally well served — loyal customers of five years describe Caesar's as their go-to for all saltwater tank needs, praising the store's reliability and professionalism. Out back, koi ponds showcase beautiful specimens alongside pond supplies, making this one of Sonoma County's more complete aquatic destinations.
" The dry goods side covers filters, charcoal, medications, and tank equipment — everything needed to set up a new system or maintain an existing one. One customer came in specifically for fin rot treatment for their betta and walked out not just with the right products but with a genuine education on betta care. What really sets Caesar's apart is the staff.
Names like Phoenix and Javier come up repeatedly — employees who are patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in helping customers succeed. Whether someone is treating a sick fish or setting up their very first tank, the team takes the time to explain things thoroughly. Multiple reviewers note that the expertise here far exceeds what you'd find at big chain pet stores, and the pricing is more competitive too.
7 stars, Caesar's Tropical Fish Factory has clearly earned its reputation as a Sonoma County institution. The combination of a massive, well-maintained fish selection across freshwater, saltwater, and pond categories, plus a staff that treats every question as worth answering, makes the trip to Santa Rosa well worth it for aquarists across the North Bay.
