About
Tropical Waters in Santa Clarita is the kind of neighborhood fish store that thrives on personal attention rather than sheer volume. Owner George has built a loyal following among local aquarists — particularly saltwater hobbyists — by offering honest advice, fair prices, and a genuine willingness to track down specific livestock. Multiple reviewers mention his patience with beginners and his refusal to upsell unnecessary products, a quality that's increasingly rare in the hobby.
The store's primary strength lies in its saltwater and reef offerings. Customers have picked up Mandarin Dragonets at competitive prices, admired interactive pufferfish, and praised the colorful coral selection. George provides RODI water for reef keepers and maintains hands-on expertise in coral reef aquarium care.
Freshwater hobbyists aren't overlooked — the shop carries live plants and freshwater fish, and George has helped customers set up both fresh and saltwater tanks from scratch. Services extend beyond retail. George offers aquarium setup assistance, water testing with personalized advice on balancing parameters, and tank maintenance on a recurring schedule.
He's also been in the custom aquarium building business for some time, giving him a depth of practical knowledge that informs every recommendation he makes. If something isn't in stock, he'll order it — a recurring theme across nearly every review. The selection is admittedly modest compared to big-box competitors, and new stock typically arrives on Wednesdays.
But what Tropical Waters lacks in sprawling inventory, it compensates for with George's encyclopedic knowledge and genuine care for your tank's health. Customers describe him as someone who treats your aquarium like his own, following up and making things right when issues arise. For Santa Clarita reef enthusiasts who value a knowledgeable local resource over warehouse-style shopping, Tropical Waters delivers a personal touch that keeps people coming back.
Note: at least one review suggests the store may have closed, so calling ahead before visiting is strongly recommended.

— Ligaya Kelly5.010 months ago“Got few of my saltwater fish here quite a while since I just live here in Plum Canyon. I met Jordan if I'm not mistaken. He is very helpful in assisting customer. I think their business is focused on selling fish only. After they provide service maintenance for my 150 gallons aquarium every 2 weeks - he did not show up to do the maintenance for some reason just like a bubble that pops out, so I stop buying saltwater fish as well. I don't really care since you can find a better person on Yelp who can do the job seriously. Overall business interaction with this company is just fine, however, I would not recommend at all. It's not a good experience.”

He is patient and thorough when answering all of my questions and because I’m a beginner, I have a lot of questions. He even offered to test my tank water for me and offered his advice on how to balance it better. I can tell he was not trying to sell me unnecessary items and his prices are reasonable. I purchased one plant that has been doing good so far. The selection at the store is limited but he can order anything you need. It’s great to be able to talk with someone knowledgeable and honest.”
