About
Walking into 7 Seas Tropical Fish in San Pedro feels less like shopping and more like visiting a private aquarium. Reviewers consistently describe the experience as inspiring and colorful — one customer even claimed it rivals the Aquarium of the Pacific just down the road. This family-owned shop has been serving the South Bay for years, building a reputation on healthy livestock, ethical sourcing, and a genuine love for the hobby.
The store stocks both freshwater and saltwater species in impressive variety. Customers regularly report coming in for one fish and leaving with several, simply because the selection is too tempting to resist. Snails and other invertebrates also make appearances in the tanks, and multiple reviewers note that the animals they bring home are consistently healthy and clean.
The setups on display throughout the store serve as real inspiration for anyone planning a new build or rescape. Beyond livestock, 7 Seas carries a solid range of aquarium supplies, fish food, and equipment — enough that many customers use it as their one-stop shop. Convenience plays a role here too, with extended hours often running until 8 PM, making after-work visits easy.
Prices run higher than online retailers, and some reviewers flag this as a sticking point. But many are happy to pay the premium for same-day availability and the kind of hands-on guidance you simply can't get from a website. The staff — largely family members and long-time employees — are repeatedly praised for being knowledgeable without being pushy.
They'll answer questions, offer care advice, and help match fish to your setup without resorting to hard sells. That said, a couple of reviews mention a more aggressive sales approach, so experiences may vary. For San Pedro aquarists and anyone willing to make the drive through the South Bay, 7 Seas Tropical Fish delivers a vibrant, well-stocked store with the kind of personal attention that keeps hobbyists coming back for years.

“I went in today to replace a fountain pump, ready to pay whatever since I have no idea what I'm doing. They kindly told me how to clean up what I have to make it work! And it worked!! I used to have aquariums and this was my go to spot then as well. You just don't find honest integrity in businesses so much any more. THANK YOU!”
— Lo R5.04 days ago“Cool store, but ridiculously over priced. I guess the main clientele are from PV and don't care about being ripped off. 15 dollars for a silver dollar when you can get the same fish for 6 at other stores. I only went because I needed a specific pleco and the person who answered the phone claimed to have "all the good stuff". Yeah it's a nice assortment, I'll give you that, but I don't appreciate being talked down to. The owner was critiquing how I was going about I was cycling my tank and brushing it off as "that internet stuff." He then mentioned several times how he's been keeping fish since the 80's I respect that but I'm sure a lot has changed in terms of what we know in the last 40 years, man. In the end it was $40 for a basic sailfin pleco and a little jar of pleco wafers. Probably will not return, a lot of better stores towards Long Beach and OC.”
— Roman A2.03 months ago“If you’re serious about aquariums, 7 Seas Tropical Fish in San Pedro is simply the best fish store around. They might not always be the cheapest, but what you get here is on a completely different level than most aquarium shops. The selection of truly exotic freshwater and saltwater fish is incredible, and the staff clearly know what they’re doing when it comes to maintaining healthy, high-quality specimens. What really blew me away is the massive selection of brand-new aquariums, tanks, and accessories. I’ve never seen so many tanks and setups in one place — everything from small starter aquariums to large display tanks. The amount of equipment, filtration systems, lighting, decorations, and supplies they carry is honestly bigger than what I would expect to see even in a catalog. If you’re building a new aquarium or looking for rare fish you won’t find at big chain pet stores, this place is absolutely worth visiting. It’s easily one of the most impressive aquarium shops I’ve seen anywhere.”

— MIKE VALDEZ5.04 months ago“Top notch place! Small business has been in business for years! The family has been very helpful in sharing their knowledge. They don't push hard sales. Pricing is high when you compare to online for products and merchandise however I am happy to pay for in stock same day purchase with many open hours often to 8 PM. The fish are healthy and clean. Lots of sizes and both fresh and salt water species. I will be going back for all fish food and supplies.”
