About The Mystic Reef

Tucked into Riverside, California, The Mystic Reef is a family-run saltwater shop where owners Jeremy and Rocio have built a loyal following among local reef keepers. The store's focus is unmistakably marine — clean, well-maintained coral tanks line the space, filled with vibrant zoas, xenias, and a rotating selection of frags that keep hobbyists coming back. Aquacultured fish and invertebrates are part of the inventory, including clownfish, royal grammas, blue tangs, six line wrasses, and a solid clean-up crew selection of nassarius snails, emerald crabs, and hermit crabs.

What sets The Mystic Reef apart is the hands-on, personal approach Jeremy and Rocio bring to the hobby. Multiple customers mention receiving Jeremy's personal number for quick questions, and the couple regularly checks in via text to see how new livestock is settling in. 5-gallon saltwater tank with coral, gobies, and a cleaning crew — then followed up with water testing and ongoing advice.

Another recounted Jeremy grabbing pieces of live rock to demonstrate stacking techniques on the spot. The shop carries dry goods and equipment alongside livestock, and they've helped customers order larger items like a Red Sea all-in-one tank with home delivery. While the store's heart is firmly in saltwater and reef keeping, they do carry a limited freshwater selection — a handful of tanks with fish — though several reviewers noted this isn't really the shop's strength.

If you're looking specifically for freshwater, you may leave disappointed. Pricing draws mixed opinions. Most reef keepers find coral and fish prices fair and competitive, though a few have flagged markups on frozen foods like Hikari spirulina mysis shrimp.

The store is small but meticulously clean, and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. For Riverside-area reef enthusiasts, the combination of healthy coral selection, aquacultured livestock, and genuinely invested owners makes The Mystic Reef a shop worth building a relationship with.

Absolutely loved this saltwater fish and coral store! They were incredibly friendly and kind from the moment I walked in. They were happy to answer questions and never made me feel rushed or pressured. The prices were very fair honestly some of the best I’ve seen and the selection of corals was stunning. Everything looked healthy, vibrant, and well cared for. The shop is owned by an amazing owner and his wife, and you can really feel the passion and care they put into the store and the animals. You can truly tell they love what they do. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend this place to any reef keeper!

Needed a fish heater for my tank because other one i bought broke. As soon as I enter I am greeted by the owner. He helped me find the heater I need, recommending me the best one for the price I was looking for. Amazing customer service with a cute little shell gift at the end.

I began coming here a few weeks ago after the unfortunate closing of the aquarium near me. The owner and (I think?) his wife are awesome. Very knowledgeable and kind people. I'm still very much learning how to keep a saltwater tank and they check in with me via text message to ask how things are going, offer advice, and take water samples to test. I have a small 13.5 gallon saltwater tank that I could not keep clean even having just a clownfish. He got me set up with coral, other plants, and a cleaning crew of several snails and some gobies I think. Everything is working great.
