About
Fish World sits along Inland Empire Blvd in Ontario, CA, and over the years it has become a genuine home base for Inland Empire freshwater hobbyists. The shop is run by Tony and Chris, two longtime fishkeepers whose hands-on knowledge of water parameters, species compatibility, and tank health shows up in nearly every visit. Regulars call it their "definite go-to place," and newcomers routinely walk out saying they learned more in one conversation than in months of online videos.
One customer who couldn't keep a cichlid tank alive credits the guys with diagnosing the problem and turning it into a thriving, healthy setup. The freshwater selection runs deep, from colorful community nano fish to impressive show-size specimens, and shoppers keep mentioning how many sizes there are to choose from. Discus keepers will find this an appealing stop — one regular documented upgrading from a 29-gallon goldfish tank to a 90-gallon discus display with Tony and Chris hand-picking fish and fielding every follow-up call.
Pleco fans praise the pricing on sought-after species like Adonis plecos and golden nuggets, deals a breeder of 30-plus years called genuinely good. If you're after cichlids, goldfish, healthy live plants, or shrimp for sale in Ontario, CA, the staff will also source and hold hard-to-find livestock on request. Beyond the tanks, Fish World offers tank-setup guidance, RO water, fish food, decorations, and honest consultation that steers you away from bad pairings rather than just ringing up a sale.
As with many busy local shops, a few visitors have wished for a livestock guarantee or quicker phone answers, but most Ontario aquarists keep coming back for the personal attention. For a true walk-in fish store in the Inland Empire run by people who keep fish themselves — the kind locals find when they search for a fish store near me — Fish World delivers that hands-on touch.

“Super friendly people and lots of fish to choose from.”

— Denis Rayo5.0a week ago“They sold me dead shrimp. I didn't check when I checked out, but it only took me ten minutes to get home. Before I even opened the bag, I saw four or five of them floating upside down in the water. I called them, but they refused to exchange them for me, saying these shrimp are just for feeding. I was actually planning on buying a wolffish here, but this experience has totally put me off. That's no excuse for selling dead livestock. I won't be coming back here again. It's time to find some better shops. At least PetSmart stands behind their livestock with a solid guarantee”

— Matthew Gibson5.0a month ago“First off, I want to say that I really enjoyed the employees here and had a great experience purchasing the fish. The selection was impressive, the prices were fair, and the staff was genuinely helpful and friendly. That said, I was disappointed after spending around $250 on fish and having one die within 12 hours. While I understand that store policy may not allow refunds or store credit, it was still frustrating given how quickly the loss happened. Especially when I have perfect water parameters and the fish wasn’t getting bullied / stressed by my others. More concerning, though, is that the surviving fish I purchased introduced Ich into my tank. Thankfully I know how to treat it, but it does make me question whether the incoming shipments are being properly quarantined or treated before being sold. Even large chain stores like Petco and Petsmart often take preventative measures against common illnesses like Ich. Overall, I liked the store and the staff, but dealing with an immediate fish loss followed by a tank-wide illness has made me hesitant to return.”
