About
Tucked into a small shopping center in Menifee, California, Hammer Aquatics is a saltwater-focused local fish store that owner Zach built from years of hands-on experience — including a decade of maintaining commercial tanks like a local restaurant's 150-gallon setup. That background shows in the care he puts into his livestock and the detailed guidance he offers customers navigating everything from dosing schedules to fish compatibility. The saltwater selection is the main draw.
Hammer Aquatics stocks a solid range of coral frags — soft corals, LPS, and some SPS — with many starting around $20, making it an accessible entry point for reef hobbyists in the Inland Empire. Reviewers note unique saltwater fish species that don't typically show up at competing stores, and the invertebrate selection rounds out the offerings. The store also sells salt mix, RO water, food, and equipment, saving Menifee-area reefers a drive to Temecula.
While the core identity is firmly saltwater, Zach has been expanding the freshwater side based on customer demand. One reviewer recounts asking him to special order a male paradise fish — a fairly uncommon request — and returning to find an entire batch of unusual freshwater species had been brought in. That willingness to listen and adapt is a recurring theme: multiple customers mention Zach ordering specific fish on request and spending real time walking people through tank setup decisions.
The store is still relatively young, and some reviewers note that stock can be inconsistent. But the trajectory is clearly upward. For saltwater enthusiasts in Menifee and surrounding communities, Hammer Aquatics fills a genuine gap — quality coral frags, fair pricing, and an owner who will talk you through water chemistry issues rather than just ringing you up.
Zach's enthusiasm for the hobby is infectious, and the shop reflects someone building something with intention rather than just moving product.

— Charles Redd5.03 months ago“Came in near closing and loved the variety of salt water fish, I was there for fresh water but I could definitely appreciate the awesome salt water variety! I wish they had more stuff for fresh water aquariums, I was trying to ask him some questions about what my tank may need but he wasn’t very informative he kinda just slammed items on the counter and started getting me to check out…I felt rushed and pressured into just buying what he put on the counter with no explanation. I felt like he was annoyed for some reason and he said my pump would be $20 and then recommended a water treatment which should be no more than $12-15 being generous and the total came out the $45? I felt like he hustled me a little. They are a new store so maybe he still has learning to do and maybe more time to bring in fresh water options! Not my first choice but it’s local so I’ll return in a few months to see if his customer service and selection have improved. I’m a small business owner as well so I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt!”
