About
Aquatic Collection is the kind of aquarium store Bay Area hobbyists happily drive an hour to reach, and the wall-to-wall tanks explain why. Walk into the Hayward, CA shop and you'll find trays of coral and rows of cubes packed with saltwater fish — angelfish, invertebrates, live rock, snails, starfish, and crabs — alongside one of the largest reef selections around. Regulars describe healthy SPS and LPS corals, display tanks that rank among the best they've seen, and staff who actually know their livestock.
Owners Carson and Joe keep the place spotless and busy; on a recent visit one shopper praised Yoshi for helping pick out a Waterbox all-in-one tank and supporting equipment, while Ciera, dubbed the "freshwater fish whisperer," steered another customer toward a lively, compatible mix of fish. The freshwater side is just as deep. Aquarists come for ember tetras, platies and other livebearers, frontosas, kuhli loaches, habrosus corydoras, and emerald-eye rasboras for sale in Hayward, CA — often sold in groups so you can stock a proper school.
The tetra and livebearer tanks are kept snail-free, a detail snail-averse keepers single out. Live plants, live brine shrimp, and live worms are bagged and ready for fish that only take small live food, and betta keepers note that staff will steer them toward a cheaper food rather than upsell. Water testing is available before you buy, and a weekly newsletter lists new livestock arrivals.
Prices land fair to slightly high depending on what you're after — corals and rarer reef fish included — but periodic sales and a loyalty rewards program keep longtime customers coming back, some for five or ten years running. Parents bring the kids just to window-shop the displays. For the sheer breadth of saltwater and freshwater livestock under one roof, this Hayward aquarium store is a destination worth the drive, with Red Sea and Waterbox gear rounding out the front of the shop.

— Emily Holden5.04 weeks ago“Of course, everyone has different perspectives, needs, and financial abilities when it comes to this hobby. I can only speak from my experience with freshwater tanks, so I cannot comment on the saltwater inventory. Having lived in high cost-of-living areas such as New Jersey, New York, and Orange County, I understand that fish prices can sometimes be higher depending on the market. However, compared to many other fish stores I’ve visited, the freshwater livestock and products here felt significantly overpriced, especially considering that many fish shops purchase inventory in bulk. In my personal opinion, the price increase does not necessarily justify the value for the average hobbyist unless someone is specifically willing to pay a premium. Additionally, while the store is clean and visually well organized, cleanliness and presentation are also part of marketing and customer experience. A cleaner-looking store does not automatically mean the fish will live longer or be healthier compared to fish from a less polished-looking shop. I’m glad many customers have had positive experiences here. Personally, though, I would choose to spend my money elsewhere, as the pricing feels more revenue-driven than value-driven.”

— Marsha Lorenzo5.0a month ago“I've been looking for a pink streaked wrasse for a long time (over 1.5 year). However the price for this fish ($120+ )was a turn off, and evey place that sold this fish was out of stock. I then found Aquatic Collection and they had it. I decided to bite the bullet and I was ready to pay the price for this fish. To my surprise, they had a promo for this fish...50% off. This was meant to be. There was no issues with shipping, package arrived on time. The fish was package with care. It was tripled baged and packed in a way to prevent the bag from moving around in the styrofoam box. It also had some heating pads in the box to keep the water and fish in the right temp. It's been 2 days now and it's already eating and seems healthy. I'll definitely order from then again.”
— Brian T5.0a month ago“They have a big selection and friendly staff that are always willing to answer questions.”
— Kim Dulaney4.0a month ago“Huge salt water fish and invertebrate supply. Anything you could need ever want for a saltwater aquarium”
— Anthony Valenzuela5.02 months ago“This place has the best customer service and livestock I have ever seen in my life. Their shrimp and fish is the best, especially their neocaridinas and amanos, to their platies and ember tetras which are in my 11 gallon aquarium. A major plus is that in most of the freshwater section especially where the tetras and livebearers are at; they are snail free which is a major advantage for aquarists like me who have a phobia of snails Overall, a great business and will continue to shop here again!”
