Sea Splendor Aquarium in Fairfield, California is the kind of neighborhood fish store that earns its loyal following one tank at a time. Run primarily by Evan and Chris, the shop splits its footprint between a freshwater section up front and a saltwater area in the back, covering both ends of the hobby with genuine expertise. Regulars stop in weekly — sometimes just for RODI water, sometimes to browse coral frags or pick up supplements for their mixed reef setups.
The freshwater side stocks African cichlids, tetras, barbs, rasboras, and livebearers like guppies and endlers, with staff happy to walk you through the differences between species. They carry discus when available and have been known to bring in rare and exotic specimens that are harder to find at chain pet stores. Their live plant selection stands out as one of the best in the Fairfield area, filling a gap that bigger box stores simply don't cover.
On the saltwater side, coral frags are a draw — customers report great deals and healthy stock that thrives long after leaving the shop. One thing that sets Sea Splendor apart is the willingness to order. If something isn't on the shelf, Evan or Chris will place an order, call you when it arrives, and often steer you toward a better product in the process.
They quarantine new arrivals before selling, and the filter supply selection is notably extensive. Prepared dry foods are rotated regularly — one observant customer noted nothing close to expiration. The store is small, and inventory can be thin at times — saltwater fish stock in particular fluctuates.
But what's there tends to be healthy, and the personalized service compensates for what square footage can't provide. Several customers have built entire systems — freshwater planted tanks, saltwater mixed reefs — with Sea Splendor's guidance over the years. For Fairfield hobbyists, this shop fills a critical niche with fair prices and people who genuinely care about the fish leaving their doors.

The Sea Splendor team has been very helpful to me and our family over the years. We have two fresh tanks and a saltwater mixed reef. Evan is very knowledgeable and we are in the store often for RO water, fish, and supplements…. And since our salt upgrade… tubing, accessories and more…. If he doesn’t have what you need in stock he will order it for you… and probably give you advice for a better product. A few pics of what we have created with Sea splendor… May 2025- added a few more photos so you can see how the salt tank has evolved- corals have grown and new corals added.

Friendly and very knowledgeable owner. He's willing to answer ever question and spend quality time explaining things. Saltwater fish in stock is commonly low. And ordering of fish is dependent on whether he remembers to place the order. Still definitely worth working with him.

This is the only aquarium store that has a good supply of everything needed to run an aquarium. All the other pet stores in the area carry very limited stock. I find it to be the only place I can get the type of plants I want for my aquarium.

I was told I had a 7 day guarantee on the Discus fish I bought totalling $160.00. They were still in the shipping bags. I lost the cobalt blue first, then the pigeon blood which were the small ones. One died 3 days after the other 5 days after. The larger albino is fine. My tank is heavily decorated, so finding the bodies is impossible. They did not honor the 7 days, and hung up on me when I asked to order one larger cobalt blue to exchange. I will pay for two more.
