About
Total Fish & Pets in Alhambra packs an astonishing amount of life into one room — tanks run wall to wall, freshwater on one side, saltwater on the other, with aquascaping wood, stones, and plants filling the gaps between. It's a working aquarium store that puts livestock variety and health ahead of polish, and the regulars who drive in from across the San Gabriel Valley (one recent visitor made the trip from Victorville) wouldn't trade it for a tidier showroom. Owner Ken, often working alongside family, has long been the discus destination for the greater Los Angeles area, and the freshwater roster runs deep: arowanas, flowerhorns, King Kong parrot cichlids, L046 zebra plecos, clown loaches, and rows of nano fish for smaller setups.
Recent reviewers still rave about the range — "choices on choices," as one put it — and the steady stream of unusual, fairly priced stock. If you're hunting hard-to-find tropical fish for sale in Alhambra, CA, this is where local hobbyists look first. Bettas, goldfish, and pond fish all turn up here too.
The saltwater side holds its own with coral frags, anemones, cleanup-crew invertebrates, and reef fish, kept stable through Southern California summers by a bank of chillers — a behind-the-scenes detail longtime customers notice. Across the board, visitors consistently describe the fish as healthy and the prices as fair. For planted-tank and aquascaping fans, Total Fish stocks aquatic plants (including tissue cultures), driftwood, and stones available in Alhambra, CA, and staff will talk you through pH compatibility, cycling methods, and even filterless setups rather than upselling.
Helpful, professional answers to fish questions come up again and again in recent reviews, and self-serve water stations make topping off easy. The shop runs cash-preferred and gets genuinely busy on weekends, but parking in the big front lot is easy. For tropical and reef fish variety near me in the San Gabriel Valley, this Alhambra mainstay sets the bar.

— danny hernandez5.04 months ago“I regret using this establishment for aquarium needs. Helping local shops over Big Corporations was my intention. Believe me, I could get what I needed from those on-line stores. I went in feeling hopeful, the owner and his kid said "Hi" to welcome me in. I needed to find some stuff for my betta and the owner immediately came to ask what I needed. He recommended an item and went on to tend what he was doing earlier. I needed one more thing and couldn't find it, so I asked him if he has an Item. He somehow wasn't enthused by helping me this time. He didn't say anything, he just got the item and handed it to me. He went on a call and fiddled with the thing he was messing with. I went to get ringed up, he saw me standing in the wrong area, the register was close to the entryway. He didn't say anything. It took a couple of minutes for him to tend to me. I was the only customer, so you'd think it be a speedy transaction. He gave out an attitude that did not want to deal with me. My items were scattered on the counter, felt like he didn't want to hand me them until he decided to put them in a bag and handed them to me like I was less than human. He didn't say Thank You, or Bye. Only dead silence. This will be the first and last time I ever will step in this shop again!”
