About
Walk into Sounds Fishy Aquatics & Exotics and you'll see right away this is no ordinary pet shop — it's part aquarium showroom, part exotic-animal menagerie, run with real passion by owner Keri and longtime fish expert Bryan. Regulars drive from nearly two hours away, and the reason is simple: the animals are healthy, the prices are fair, and the people behind the counter genuinely care. Since the recent move to a new location, customers say the shop is cleaner and easier to shop than ever — one visitor noted you can tell how much effort went into making the buying process smooth.
On the freshwater side, the selection is the star. Discus — notoriously hard to keep in retail tanks — swim in pristine condition, a credit to the daily attention Bryan brings from over 40 years of fishkeeping. You'll also find koi for sale in Northport, AL at prices that surprise people (sizeable specimens have gone for as little as $25), along with lionhead goldfish, Oscars, bettas, dwarf gouramis, and neon tetras that recent buyers report arriving home lively and well.
Live plants like duckweed round out the offerings for planted-tank keepers. ' But Sounds Fishy earns its 'Exotics' name too. Albino ball pythons, yellow-belly turtles, bearded dragons with every toe intact, tortoises you can pet, and birds fill the space with life — Bowser the turtle is unforgettable, and the staff happily lets families get hands-on.
Watch your step around Brutus near the door. What sets this Northport fish store apart is the personal touch. Keri follows up after purchases to check on your animals, Bryan walks you through aquarium setup with patience, and a frequent-buyers program rewards repeat visitors with discounts and prizes.
If they don't stock what you want, they'll track it down. You leave feeling like you just visited friends who happen to sell fish and reptiles.

— theressa boehm5.04 months ago“Great store, knowledgeable, and friendly as can be. Great prices. Keri is the best. Watch out for Brutus, don't trip over him! I'll be back when you move for some duckweed and a female beta. Tanks, fish and plants look great. I've kept an aquarium for over 50 years and am not confortable with having Discus. Well she carries Discus which are quite finicky and they looked great. That don't happen by accident. More into Anabantidae myself. Thanks much Keri!”
— 350 ZMO5.03 days ago“An amazing place to go to. It’s basically a zoo where you can buy the animals. Extremely friendly staff and very helpful.”
