## About

Tropical Fish World in Buckley, Washington has earned a devoted following across the Puget Sound region — and for good reason. This freshwater-focused fish store packs an extraordinary variety of species into a clean, well-organized space that puts big-box pet retailers to shame. Walk into the fish room and you'll find dozens of pleco varieties, including longfin lemon blue eye bristlenose plecos, alongside colorful dojo loaches, cardinal tetras (notoriously hard to find in the Pacific Northwest), electric blue acaras, kuhli loaches, corydoras, rasboras, zebra danios, platys, and bettas. They even stock axolotls in both regular and albino morphs, plus a rope fish that has become something of a local celebrity among young visitors.

The tanks are spotless, and the store maintains strict health protocols — fish showing any signs of illness are pulled from sale and treated before being made available. This commitment to livestock quality is something reviewers mention repeatedly, with many noting that every fish they've brought home has adapted quickly and thrived.

Beyond fish, Tropical Fish World carries live plants, a deep inventory of aquarium supplies and décor, and general pet supplies for dogs, cats, rats, and guinea pigs. The clearance bin is reportedly worth digging through. Staff members like Dylan, Shannon, and Mark are consistently praised for taking time with customers, helping select compatible species, walking through proper acclimation techniques, and refusing to sell fish to tanks that aren't ready — a sign the store prioritizes animal welfare over quick sales.

The shop has followed a winding path through several South Sound towns, including a previous location in Sumner, and loyal customers have followed right along. Now settled in Buckley on the plateau, it fills a gap that locals have long wanted. Prices undercut the chain stores, and the selection — particularly the sheer depth of pleco and loach varieties — rivals what many hobbyists have only seen online. For freshwater enthusiasts anywhere in western Washington, it's worth the drive.

> Absolutely amazing place and staff they take their time knowledgeable on the fish and don't let you buy anything that you're not ready for which definitely shows they're not just about the money!!

> Not a first time customer, but my experience today wasn't the greatest. It was difficult to get assistance as there were only 2 ppl on the floor. I kept getting "skipped over" as the store began to now get even busier. 1 person on register "with no one checking out at that time". Once I paid and received my beautiful fish I got home realized I only received 7 Cardinal tetras but I paid for 8.

Not really sure what to think as this point. Maybe just a one off bad experience.

> The store itself is great. Nice people, nice animals, nice setup and nice equipment. The only thing that I would recommend is that they get a website. The website link on google takes you to their facebook page. Not everyone has facebook. They are willing to tell you if they carry what you need, you just have to call and ask.

> We went for the first time last weekend and they had so many fish, items, decor. My kiddo loved seeing EVERYTHING. Even the clearance bin had treasure! For the most part all the fish and aquatic looked healthy and happy. The prices weren't bad and the customer service was spectacular. I was most impressed by the variety! We ended up taking home 5 Zebra Danios, 3 Kuhli loches, and 2 platys for our 36gal bow front tank. They've all adapted well and even got along with the fish I already had in there. No fin nipping, no bad behavior. Definitely recommend and have recommended to locals!

BTW! The rope fish was the coolest! My kiddo was mesmerized and they were looking at him too! Best fish store ever.

> Clean, wide selection of products, animals appear healthy and preventative protocols are in place to not send you home with icky stuff, and prices are cheaper than large chain store prices.
