About
Jungle Aquatics is a sprawling, locally loved fish store in Virginia Beach, VA, with a following that stretches across Hampton Roads — some hobbyists drive in from as far as Newport News. Reviewers consistently call it the largest freshwater selection in southeastern Virginia, and with around 500 clean tanks it lives up to the reputation. If you've been searching for a real aquarium store in Virginia Beach instead of the chain pet-store experience, this is the destination locals point to.
Freshwater livestock is the clear star. You'll find angelfish, betta fish, catfish and plecos, and a rotating mix of tropical fish for sale, with regulars praising one of the best betta selections around. Several customers also mention buying healthy discus here.
For pond keepers, koi are available in all sizes. The live aquarium plant section earns frequent praise — floating species, rooted plants, and bundle deals make it easy to fill out a new aquascape, so anyone hunting for aquarium plants near me will want to slow down and browse. Because the store also keeps saltwater, you'll find corals and saltwater fish alongside the freshwater rooms, plus invertebrates like shrimp and mystery snails for community-tank keepers.
Shelves are stocked with fish food, premium equipment, tools, and accessories at prices reviewers call fair or better. What sets Jungle Aquatics apart is the people and the flexibility. Owner Bob and staff members like Brittany, Jacob, and Jaylen are called out by name for patiently answering care questions in person, and the team will even accept re-homed fish that have outgrown a home tank — something you won't get at a chain.
Don't miss Charlie, the bite-y store mascot with his own warning sign, swimming circles with his air-stone cord. With healthy livestock, an enormous selection, and knowledgeable help, Jungle Aquatics is the go-to spot for fish, corals, live plants, and pond supplies for sale in Virginia Beach, VA.

“Great local fish shop.”
— Bill Carpenter5.0Edited 3 days ago“I love this store, and the new owner.”
— N5.0a week ago“Got most of my fish babies from here and they are doing great. Just like any live animals though, you need to quarantine, destress, treat and slowly introduce them to your main collection! Can’t blame the store on your own carelessness. The staff here are lovely and always helpful. They just had a new shipment of really unique animals including these massive fire eels. Makes me want to get more tanks haha”

— Andi hawkins4.0a month ago“I have known Bob Hames for decades (since he opened his first store). His knowledge and customer service have been exemplary through the years. His selection of beautiful and healthy fish is exceptional. My favorite tropical fish has always been the betta with neon tetras coming in a close second.”
— Deborah5.0a month ago“Beautiful healthy fish with a huge selection of unusual fish and quality supplies.”
— Anne marie Williams5.0a month ago“Great variety of fish and equipment. Prices are average. Would give 5 stars, however they need to give more attention to fish health and tank cleanliness. Staff seem knowledgeable and are helpful. With the large # of tanks I know they won't all be perfect, but I think they could do better. I still shop there, carefully. went back late 2025, early 26, bought a bunch of neons. I failed to quarantine them discovering too late they had ick (white spot disease). lost half my fish to this. I MAY try them again. however will be more judicious in selecting fish and will quarantine.”
