## About

Reef eScape in Fairfax, Virginia has built a devoted following among saltwater hobbyists across the DMV region — and some customers drive over an hour just to walk through the door. The store's reputation rests on two pillars: an outstanding coral selection and a staff that genuinely invests in each customer's success.

The coral inventory is the main draw. Frags are well-priced and healthy, with enough variety to satisfy both new reefers building their first mixed reef and seasoned collectors hunting for something special. The display tanks are immaculate — a detail reviewers mention repeatedly — and the livestock clearly reflects careful husbandry. Beyond corals, the store stocks marine fish (customers have picked up clownfish pairs, gobies, pistol shrimp, tangs, and yes, the occasional blue tang that delights kids), invertebrates for clean-up crews, live rock, and a solid dry goods section. It's worth noting this is a dedicated saltwater shop — don't come looking for freshwater stock.

What truly sets Reef eScape apart is the staff. Jae is mentioned by name in review after review, praised for walking beginners through the nitrogen cycle, recommending cycling methods like Dr. Tim's One and Only, and helping customers select compatible livestock without overselling. Lee earned a shoutout for spending two hours with a father and his six-year-old daughter, patiently guiding them through their first saltwater setup. Jameson, Ryan, Haven, and PJ all receive similar praise for their attentiveness and expertise. The shop also practices quarantine protocols, which gives customers confidence in the health of their purchases, and they'll special order fish on request.

The store also provides tank maintenance services for the local market, and staff readily offer phone consultations for troubleshooting — one customer called about a hair algae problem and received thoughtful, unhurried advice. A few reviewers note that certain non-coral livestock and supplies carry higher price tags, so coral shoppers will find the best value. For anyone running a reef tank in Northern Virginia, Reef eScape is the real deal.

> ReefEscape has been my go to place since I started my first saltwater aquarium about a year ago, as a complete beginner in the hobby I had no idea what I was getting myself into but the staff at the store were so friendly and knowledgeable. My fist time at the store I was a bit intimidated because I didn’t know what to ask for as far as starting a new tank but JAE was there ready to guide me through the whole process of setting my new tank, getting salt water from them live rock and he went over the nitrogen cycle, (obviously I had no idea about this) Jae suggested several methods on how to cycle a tank and I went with Dr Tim’s one and only. Every time I go to the store they make me feel like home. Props to everyone at ReefEscape best fish store in town, you guys Rock!!!. Can’t wait to get my first coral from you guys

> My 6-year old daughter and I walked in on a Saturday morning and were greeted by pleasant staff. I wanted her to learn about setting up a saltwater tank as opposed to doing it for her. Lee was patient and spent at least two hours with us, allowing my little one to ask questions (she’s curious and does not hesitate when it comes to asking questions). What stood out was his ability to focus on us and several other customers during our visit. Great customer service is hard to find nowadays, but Lee and the rest of the staff did not disappoint. My daughter got to pick out her rocks and label them so she could set them up in her tank as she set them up in-store ☺️ We will definitely be returning! Thanks Reef eScape!

> I went into this store for the first time last week to get a clean-up crew for my reef tank. Everyone in this store was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. They gave me great recommendations on which invertebrates to buy and which to avoid and didn’t try and oversell me on anything. I even called them today to ask a question and the gentleman that answered the phone happily took the time to answer my question without trying to rush me off the phone. My hair algae problem is already getting better with the new additions. I will definitely be back for all my fishtank needs. This is without a doubt my new local fish store, even though they are an hour drive from where I live (definitely worth the drive!!). Thanks again to everyone at Reef eScape!!

> Cool shop overall great coral selection and fair prices on those. There’s a solid variety to choose from, and everything looked healthy. The fish section was a bit limited, though. Just a heads-up: prices on some of the other livestock and supplies are marked up quite a bit for example, turbo snails were $10 when most places have them for around $3.99. Still, worth checking out if you’re mainly after coral.

> Staff is friendly and inviting. Fish selection is great and haven't had a fish death since getting them from here. Corals are a bit too pricy imo
