I love this pet store, it's realness incarnate; the staff and owner are knowledgeable chill and friendly. They give the animals lots of attention, especially the babies; getting them to feel safe with humans is a key component of the the wellbeing of the pet. You don't find this in big name petstores. Wide variety of tarantulas, birds fish, small mammals and reptiles.

I got my yellow quaker a couple weeks ago. He brings me so much comfort and plenty of smiles. I named him Symon!

This is a nice store with beautiful animals. They are a little expensive but it's neat and clean. They have a large selection of geckos, lizards, snakes, tarantulas, frogs, turtles, hermit crabs, and a few iguanas. They also have a few birds, a selection of guinea pigs hamsters, and rabbits. They also sell some unique insects as pets, some saltwater fish and freshwater fish, and feeder insects and mice for snakes and geckos/lizards. They also had frozen feeders like mice and shrimp food. It seems to be a great place to purchase reptiles and reptile food and supplies. They're reptiles and birds seemed a little expensive to me, but the reptiles were listed as rare and some reptiles can be quite pricey for certain colors and species. However, they also had some small animal cages for reptiles, hamsters and birds that seemed to be at good prices. They also had other pet supplies, like bird toys and hamster houses and reptile hides, as well as dog and cat treats and food. They also food and treats for the small animals and reptiles sold in their store. One particular thing I found great about this pet store is that they do layaway on the animals they sale and other pet supplies in their store. It can make buying an expensive exotic pet you always wanted easier to purchase since you don't have to dish out all the money at once. You can pay half down and make payments based on the price, over a period of 30 to 60 days. I believe it's half down and 30 days for $500 or less, and I think between 30-50 % down and 60 days to finish making payments for $1000 and over. But can't remember exactly. They also offer some pet grooming services at the store. All in all, I think it's a great add to the Danville, VA community since there's no other independently owned pet stores in the area. Just either a Petco or PetSmart. I can't remember which one it is. But I enjoyed seeing a small business/family owned pet store in the area because there hasn't been one of those in years. I love animals and my kids enjoyed seeing visiting the pet store. We were able to get some treats and toys for our small animals.

Best Pet Store I've ever been to. Its seriously hard to find stores that care as much as they do about their animals. They have a groomer on staff that routinely maintains the small animals so they look amazing. The animals are sooo sweet and you can really tell they work with them to make them friendly. They're so informed, I could've pointed to any creature in there down to even a feeder insect and they could tell me all about it and its care. Its literally within the first 3 years of them being open so they're lacking the amount of product some pet stores usually have (at this current time), But as long as the locals continue to support, they will no doubt continue to grow, and I for one, look forward to it!

I am a long time bird owner and animal lover. I came in after calling to see if they had any bird toys, they said plenty. I got there and it was a very sad selection. I searched the store looking for said toys and had to ask before I was pointed to 2-3 small tubs with maybe 4 items in each. Some were plain swings. They were also sat on top of bird cages, scaring the birds when I went to look at them. She also pointed to an end cap with just a couple snuggle huts and plain swings (not toys). I can almost see why she called that selection plenty, because the birds didn't even have one toy in their cages. Their water was all almost empty and filled with debris. They had only a cheap blend of seed (mainly millet) to eat in their cages. If you don't know, they do best on a pellet diet with seed fed along side and veggies supplemented. An only seed diet can result in fatty liver disease and vitimin deficiencies. There were 11+ budgies in one small cage, sharing one bowl of food and fighting over it the whole time I was there. I have 3 bowls for my 4 birds and feel bad about not having a 4th (which is currently on the way from Amazon.) They only had one wooden dowel perch for the 11 budgies, and the other birds had similar situations. Only having a wooden dowel perch can cause bumble foot from them not having a variety of shapes for their feet to rest on. The cashier was chasing a ringneck around the store when I entered. She had a small container (like a cup or bowl) that she was chasing the bird with. She kept trying to put it over his head as she picked him up (presumably to avoid being bitten) but it was a small container. I don't see the need for that, unless their birds are so poorly socialized that they can't even move them to a cage. And then they're going to be even more scared of people, due to being chased with hands and a plastic container being shoved over his face. The hamsters all had wooden shavings for bedding (can irritate the skin, airways, and cause allergy reactions.). The syrians (who were cohabitating, which isn't supposed to be done since hamsters will fight) surprisingly has proper sized wheels, but that good grace didn't carry over to the other hamsters. I could visibly see one hamsters spine bending while she ran on her wheel. There were no other enrichment in their cages. There were no enrichment items for the rabbits. There's also the fact that they had signs listing a 5 gallon minimum for betta fish and that they need I heated and filtered. Right next to Bettas in cups with no heat or filter. So they know their animals requirements, but choose not to meet them. If you want a well taken care of animal, go somewhere else. They don't even sell the proper supplies for most of them. I didn't see one good pellet brand for birds in there, just seed. I'm always excited to check out small pet stores, thinking they'll be different than how chain pet stores care for their animals but.. there's no difference here. I tried to like it at first, I came in optimistic. But so many different things that can cause so many different issues for all of their animals.. I can't overlook that.
