## About

More Than Fish Aquarium and Pets has quickly become a go-to destination for aquarium hobbyists in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, particularly those in the saltwater and reef-keeping community. Owned and operated by Sherman and Buddy, the store punches above its weight with a coral selection that draws reefers from around the area, flexible coral pricing that often comes in under market value, and community events like coral swaps that give local hobbyists a reason to connect.

The saltwater section is a clear strength — reviewers consistently praise the selection of fish and corals, and Sherman's deep knowledge of reef compatibility means you won't get sold something that'll wreak havoc in your 90-gallon reef tank. Buddy matches that expertise on the freshwater side, guiding newcomers through tank setup and even diagnosing equipment issues on the spot. One customer walked in with a broken impeller expecting to buy a replacement, only to have Buddy fix it right there. That kind of hands-on, no-upsell approach defines the store's character.

Bettas are kept in humane conditions rather than cramped cups, and the store stocks live plants, aquatic supplies, and a range of dog, cat, and reptile products — hence the name. The dry goods section is still growing and could use some filling out, but the essentials are covered. Sherman sources his animals ethically, a detail that matters to conscientious buyers and sets the store apart from chain competitors.

It's worth noting that some customers have reported health issues with fish purchases, including signs of ich and other parasites, and a few experienced losses shortly after bringing fish home. The staff appears aware and capable of addressing these concerns, but it's something to keep an eye on.

What keeps regulars coming back is the genuine care — for the animals, for the hobbyist's wallet, and for getting things right. In a landscape dominated by big-box pet retailers, More Than Fish offers something Lansdale's fish-keeping community clearly values: real expertise without the attitude, and a growing inventory that improves with every visit.

## Customer Reviews

> Lots of different fish options but the tanks were a mix of cloudy, kept and need some attention. If you're looking for something specific and salt water they seem to have some great options. We are a bit more of a beginner aquarium house.

> I showed up today with an impeller that wasn’t working, expecting to have to buy a new one. Buddy took a look at it and immediately knew how to get it working again. He was a wealth of knowledge and helped me out tremendously. They have a great selection of supplies, tools, and aquatic life, but also dog, cat toys and other pet supplies…the “More”! Buddy was extremely personable and was very willing to share great info with a new aquarium owner. I highly recommend More Than Fish Aquarium and Pets, especially to support small business owners!

> 2 out of 5. Stars represent the Fish that were alive to dead ratio by the time we made it home. Can’t bring them back to life.

> Knowledgeable owners, and great pricing with great service. Learned a lot about fish.

> The middle-aged guy who helped me was awesome very friendly, knew how to crack a joke, and set a welcoming tone. He was definitely a highlight of the visit. The coral tank was also a standout, with a pretty solid selection considering the store is fairly new and the tanks had clearly been picked through over the weekend.
The dry goods section felt a bit bare and could use some restocking and better displays. Unfortunately, I did notice a concerning number of sick fish in both the freshwater and saltwater systems, including signs of ich, velvet, and flukes. These are all treatable issues, so hopefully it was just a bad shipment possibly related to the cold weather and something they’ll get under control soon. The staff seemed knowledgeable and well-informed, which gives me confidence they’ll address it.
On a positive note, they were flexible on coral pricing, and I picked up some really nice pieces under market price, which is always great to see. They’re also hosting an upcoming coral swap, which is a big plus for the local reefing community.
Overall, the store has a lot of potential, and I hope to see it thrive over the next few years.

> Buddy was very helpful and knowledgeable of the fish and plants.

> I was super excited to visit after reading the reviews but many of the freshwater fish appeared to have Ick and there were several dead fish in the tanks. Also there was a lot of clamped fins and stressed fish. The reason I don’t give one star is the prices were really reasonable and their selection was rather nice
