About
Clark's Pet Emporium is one of Albuquerque's longtime full-service pet stores, with two locations — including the well-known Lomas shop — and a freshwater fishkeeping department that has built a genuinely loyal local following. Hobbyists drive in from as far as Valencia County for help here, and the aquatics section is a real draw for anyone hunting angelfish for sale in Albuquerque, NM. Alongside angelfish you'll find goldfish, bettas, and a rotating wall of community tanks that reviewers note are kept clean and refreshed often — one recent shopper praised how frequently the staff change the water and how healthy the bettas looked.
What sets this fish store apart is the hands-on guidance. The aquatics team doesn't just bag fish and ring you up; they'll troubleshoot a failing water filter, walk a newcomer through cycling a tank, and coach you on stocking so your fish actually thrive at home. One longtime regular credits the crew with nursing a seriously ailing angelfish back to health, and several customers have returned to report that their Clark's-purchased fish went on to breed.
If you're setting up a planted aquarium, live aquarium plants are available in Albuquerque here too, which makes it an easy one-stop trip for a first tank. Beyond fish, Clark's is a true tiny-zoo of a store — reptiles, birds, ferrets, and small mammals share the floor with a deep inventory of supplies and quality food brands like Fromm, plus Kong gear and live feeders such as crickets, roaches, and feeder mice for the reptile crowd. Staff members like Elisa and Ishmael earn repeat shout-outs for their patience and across-the-board pet knowledge, and the on-site dog and cat vaccination clinic adds practical value for owners juggling errands.
Prices run higher than feed stores or big-box chains, which regulars accept as the trade-off for curated stock and real in-person expertise. For Albuquerque fishkeepers who want guidance over guesswork, Clark's stays the local go-to.

“Everyone was so friendly and helpful I would recommend the store to many people”
— Lucretia Barlow5.0Edited 2 hours ago“Terrible service! We visited the store in hopes to purchase some fish for our aquarium. The rep knew absolutely nothing about the fish, there was no guidance to what we could put in the tank together. The rep could not answer any of our questions. It was very difficult to know what fish to purchase because as we selected the fish she would run up from behind us and cut infront of us to change the prices! I couldn't believe it. We ended up leaving with a few fish which cost an absorbent amount for the type of fish we choose. Also we ended up having to travel to the Tractor Supply PetSense to ask for assistance and to get food and supplies for the fish. I am sure for our other fish tank we will be going to an alternative pet store as that is what we had to do anyways to buy supplies for the fish we bought. It was a poor shopping experience with poor customer service. Not sure how this place stays opened especially with cramming sales tactics and dishonest sales practices. I wanted to leave but my son had his heart set on the fish he had chosen. Unfortunately I being the one paying for the pets left unhappy and feeling like I had been taken advantage of. Changing prices after the customer chooses the pets is not right!”

Staff are all friendly with a smile on their face. I highly recommend this Clark’s for all your pets needs.”

— Rhonda Scates5.0Edited 4 weeks ago“DO NOT BUY FISH HERE! I wanted to stay local and wanted to give them a chance because I've had issues in the past so I went and got fish. I notice the tanks are not very clean again Red flag but wanted to stay local so I went for it. Well brought them home and a few days later had an ICH infestation. Then my boyfriend went back to look at other fish to see and sure enough they said oh we have an ICH issue so we can't guarantee these but we're still selling them. WTH! we left and went to petsmart. Right away the difference in cleanliness was a relief. Of course we had to treat our tank first and buy new ones at petsmart and have had no issues. Its just disappointing the amount of money spent for there over priced sick fish and the cost and time to treat our tank but lesson learned.”

Thanks for such a positive experience.”
