Granite City Aquaria

This is one of the best fish stores in the state, all the employees are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the hobby! All the fish are extremely well cared for and are always in great shape when I come in. All of my plants and fish have come from this store and I can’t wait to keep going back. Awesome to have a local quality fish store in the area.

Going into Granite City Aquaria my goal was to build an aquarium from scratch. I have a small space for a 5.5 gallon tank and had big dreams that Granite City Aquaria fulfilled. I have had some previous knowledge on tanks but I really had no idea what plants and fish would work well together in a smaller tank. Granite City Aquaria taught me what was needed for my tank in order for my plants and fish to thrive. I learned how to set up my tank to cycle it, the kind of substrate I needed for my plants, how to continuously care for my plants and fish, locally made healthy food for them, tools needed, and so much more! The assistant manager has been more than helpful when it comes to questions and aiding with various needs in a timely manner. They make me feel comfortable coming in with a plethora of questions and confident with my answers and knowledge when I leave. We got three fancy guppies - two females and one male, two orange Mexican dwarf crayfish, four different snails, two yellow shrimp, a black shrimp, and a blue shrimp, a pointy sword plant, banana plant, alternanthera reineckii plant, duck weed, and frogbit. I have had this tank for about a month now and I am happy to report it is thriving! Granite City Aquaria makes sure their fish are locally bred and ethically sourced giving a variety of healthy options. I can tell they care for their enclosures, tanks, and aquariums. They have great prices and a great selection for your needs. If they don’t have what you’re looking for in store, they can usually get it for you. Thank you for helping me create my little ecosystem behind glass! Granite City Aquaria continues to blow me out of the water!

Talk about setting a standard for a "Local Fish Store". I have never left this place and not had every one if my questions answered and then some. The employees are extremely knowledgeable and polite. The fish are immaculately taken care of and healthy. This is the only place to go for fish and fish supplies. Special shout out to Alex for being one of the most honest and helpful people I have ever encountered in a business setting. Truly is a step up from the rest. I will come back time and time again. I stopped in last week to see if they'd have anything for my little outdoor pond, and I was blown away by the service, product, and prices! After two very unsuccessful and downright depressing stops at the major pet stores in town, it was a total 180. This store is clean, well-lit, well-displayed, the plants and animals are treated with respect rather than merchandise, the family that runs the store is so sweet and funny and EXTREMELY well-informed, and I left with my arms full of good stuff and loads of inspiration. Anyone with aquatic animal/plant or terrarium interests need not look farther.

Great addition to our local community! The fish are all well cared for, the staff are knowledgeable and will take the time to help you. They make great recommendations and will help you set up a live planted tank. We have been there several times and always stay longer than planned and learn something new! If you are new to fish, they will help you get everything setup beautifully and they have great prices too!
