Tucked inside the Maplewood Mall, Twin Cities Guppies is a small, owner-operated fish shop that has carved out a devoted following for one thing above all: stunning guppies. Owner Keng has built his reputation on breeding and sourcing high-quality varieties like Red Dragon guppies — fish that customers report thriving for months and producing beautiful babies. The prices run higher than big-box retailers, but reviewers consistently note that the size, color, and health of the fish justify the cost.
While guppies are the main attraction, Twin Cities Guppies carries more than the name suggests. Visitors have found healthy bettas (including one beloved resident named Mop that customers can feed), nano community fish not typically stocked at PetSmart or Petco, shrimp, live plants, moss, and aquascaping pieces like bonsai driftwood setups. It's a shop geared toward the freshwater hobbyist who appreciates carefully selected livestock over overwhelming volume.
The store stocks Aquarium Co-Op products — filters, pH testers, and other gear — giving it a curated equipment selection that appeals to planted tank enthusiasts and community fish keepers. Keng and his staff are regularly praised for taking time to share detailed care information, from planted aquarium setup tips to proper acclimation advice. One out-of-state visitor recounted how Keng packed their fish with oxygen bags as if shipping them through the mail, ensuring safe transport on a long drive home.
The shop does ship fish as well, extending its reach beyond the Twin Cities metro. The store is compact and focused — don't expect a massive warehouse of saltwater corals or rare exotics. What you will find is a tight lineup of healthy freshwater livestock backed by genuine expertise and care.
For guppy lovers in Minnesota and beyond, Twin Cities Guppies has earned its reputation as a specialist worth seeking out.

Supports anti ice protest. They will never get any of my money. I think its only a matter of time till they close the doors anyway, just look at the place. They are in a dead mall 🤣 i think aquarium co-op should reconsider having their products in this store.

I was fortunate enough to meet Keng, the owner of Twin Cities Guppies, and it was a great experience. Keng is not only friendly and approachable but also an expert in the aquatic hobby. It's refreshing to support a business that's so connected with the community. Twin Cities Guppies will definitely be my first choice for all things aquatic from now on. Thank you, TCG!

Not really much of a selection, store somewhat resembles the current state of Maplewood Mall.

Great fish store. I am glad that they are not just selling guppies, but they sell other fishes that you can not find at PetSmart or petco stores. The guppies may be expensive but their giant size, it may be worth it to buy.

Randomly found this store while visiting family in the area. Went to window shop but ended up getting a trio of red dragons. Shopkeeper was super informative and welcoming. He found out I was from out of state and packed the fishes as if he was going to mail them, ensuring it was secure and had enough oxygen for my trip back. Worst part of my experience was choosing which guppies to get, they all looked great. A+ service

Brought my granddaughter here for some nice guppys, to my surprise they carried other fish also. We saw some of the most beautiful Bettas (Siameses Fighting Fish). Don't forget to see Mop. We were even able to feed him.

I was in town for other reasons, though I've heard such great things about this store. So I visited and what a disappointment. Waited an hour for them to open at 11, 11:10 is when I arrived. Someone was cleaning tanks, the door was locked and I was ignored 🙁. I could see several tanks with ugly algae, including the display tank up front. I will Not recommend this fish store. I could go on, but will leave it at that.
