## About

Bulk Reef Supply, based in Golden Valley, Minnesota, has built its reputation as one of the most recognized names in the saltwater reef-keeping hobby. Operating primarily as an online store with a local pickup option at their warehouse, BRS is not your typical walk-in fish shop — there are no display tanks to browse or livestock aisles to wander. Instead, they've become a powerhouse for reef aquarium equipment, offering everything from RO systems and frag racks (customers rave about the Slideloc and Avidaqua magnetic racks still holding strong after a year in the tank) to all-in-one tanks from brands like Fiji Cube.

What truly sets BRS apart is their educational content. Their YouTube channel has become a go-to resource for reef keepers at every level, featuring detailed product breakdowns, tank-building tutorials, and reef science deep dives. Multiple reviewers mention the videos as a major reason they shop here — the content builds trust before you ever add something to your cart. Their website mirrors this approach, packed with educational information alongside product listings.

The Preferred Reefer rewards program keeps loyal customers coming back, and when things go right, the experience is seamless: same-day shipping, fast free delivery that often arrives ahead of schedule, and a customer service team that real people — like Alex, Mark, Chad, and Tyler — staff by phone. One customer recounted how Alex personally ensured an out-of-stock AIO tank was secured after a checkout glitch. Another described how BRS intervened with Fiji Cube directly when a drop-shipped order went sideways.

That said, recent reviews suggest growing pains. Some long-time customers report shipping delays, unfulfilled orders, and difficulty reaching support — a shift they attribute to a possible ownership change that's replaced the original family-business feel with a more corporate operation. Despite these frustrations, BRS remains a dominant destination for saltwater reef supplies, with a product selection and knowledge base that's hard to match anywhere in the hobby.

> I just received a $300 order. I literally had to take the box outside after I opened. The contents had a brown substance on them and it smelled like a feedlot, yeah, like SHI-!!!! Took 3 hand washings to get the smell off my hands. I'm going to have to throw out the entire order. I'm done with this clown show.

> Up until this year 5 *'s would not have been enough for BRS. However, recently I have found that my orders are plagued with shipping delays, poor communication and poor tracking.
I hope I find a reason to come back and raise this to a 5 * again. BRS has the best selection and often the best price for reef gear. It sucks that the quality of service has dropped.

They are now guilty of selectively withholding accurate reviews. I had a bad experience with a product, posted a rational review itemizing my issue, and a month later it hasn't been posted.

> Wow just wow! My husband purchased over 400$ worth of products for Black Friday to get a special gift they were advertising… guess what he got… a whole 10$ off coupon. What a joke. We definitely will be taking our business elsewhere.

> They used to be a great place to buy anything aquarium, recently something changed for the worst! Calling for support you get extremely long elevator music making you hang up after 45 minutes! I tried 3 times when my order was wrong, a couple items were wrong, then I emailed them still no response??? All I can say if they get your order wrong you will probably be stuck with what you received and have to buy elsewhere or buy something like I did it make it work. There's rumors they were purchased by an investment company? If true that usually never ends well most will drain a company like vampires until nothing is left then move on to another to bankrupt it's the new American way.

> My question is why should I keep ordering through y'all I just ordered a tank through y'all to put $1,100 clown fish in it and y'all send me an email at the last minute saying oh we don't have your tank so we can't send it to you even after I paid extra for the receive it a lot earlier y'all won't give me that money back now what am I supposed to do with my fish

> Always fast free shipping. All of my orders have shipped out the next business day (or earlier). Free shipment always arrives earlier than promised.

> Ordered wrong thing by mistake . Item was $18.99 and BRS wants $12.99 to return it. I’ve been shopping with them for years. Although I acknowledge this is my mistake. I just expected a company to treat its customers a little better. I’ll shop with the competitors who offer free returns from now on. You can do better BRS.

> I love bulk reef supply BRS

> Great YouTube channel to go with a great store.

**"LiftedGmc 2500"** - 1/5 - 3 months ago
> I don’t make reviews and I don’t complain, but this company has gone to absolute garbage since it was sold, and nothing is what it’s claimed to be. I’ve been buying form this store 6 years now, and every BRS branded product has been less than what they claim or doesn’t work. Not even their damn super glue works. I hope they go under ripping hobbyist off daily.
