About
Delta Pet Center LLC is a locally owned fish store and full pet shop in Slidell, LA that reviewers love to wander like a free, indoor zoo. The space is compact but densely packed, with rows of clean, well-kept freshwater tanks lining the walls alongside enclosures for reptiles, birds, and small mammals. Regulars say the tanks are "always filled with something," and when a fish sells out, fresh arrivals tend to follow quickly, so it's worth stopping back in person.
The freshwater selection is what keeps aquarium hobbyists driving in. The African cichlids draw the most attention, with the kind of vivid coloring that catches your eye the moment you walk by, and they're available in Slidell, LA alongside Oranda goldfish, kissing gouramis, and uncommon leopard fish you won't spot at a big-box store. Betta keepers have done well here too: one recent shopper picked up a Samurai and a half-moon betta and reported both happy and healthy months later.
You'll also find live plants for sale in Slidell, LA, plus aquariums, fish food, and the everyday gear to round out a freshwater setup. What customers come back for is the staff. Mrs.
Donna earns repeated shoutouts for patient, detailed guidance, and Lauren recently walked a family through choosing the right pet with the same care. The team will pull animals out for hands-on introductions, a reliable hit with kids, take down your name when something you want isn't in stock, and tell you honestly when the next batch is due. They're known for steering you toward the right purchase rather than the most expensive one.
It's an unpretentious, well-loved neighborhood shop where one six-year regular says they've never left without what they came for. If you're keeping freshwater fish anywhere around Slidell, LA, Delta Pet Center is a deep-inventory local fish store with real personality and a team that clearly cares about the livestock they sell.

“Have been coming here for the past year maybe a little longer to get my rats and other things and absolutely love this store until today when I met Joe I’m not sure if he didn’t have his coffee this morning but he’s the rudest person there and if he thinks talking to his customers the way he does will get him business he sadly mistaken. Me and my wife will not be returning…”

— Alek Deffes5.03 weeks ago“Would literally give negative stats if I could. The bearded dragons are in vertical enclosures, giving them height isnt an issue but limiting their floor space absolutely is. Theye housing adult beardies together, the snakes have hardly any space and theyre literally in there with substrate (i dont even want to know which substrate) and a water/feeding dish and thats all. I mean these snakes are 3 ft long in enclosures that arent even half that long. Dont even get me started on the bunnies and hamsters... Yk I can get over the smell. Theres a million animals, its going to smell bad. But selling animals for as high as they do to take such awful care of them is absolutely ridiculous.”
— Tara Spear1.03 weeks ago“I had been looking for a male Zebra Finch as a friend for the one I rescued. They took my name and number and reached out as soon as they had some in. Thank you all so much! My baby is thrilled to have a friend again.”

— Jamie Seitter5.0a month ago“I got two bettas from here a few months apart. One Samurai and one half moon. Both happy and healthy.”
— Madison Embree5.0a month ago“Not very friendly and way overpriced”
— Carly Dalton2.02 months ago“As soon as I walked in I got hit with really bad ammonia smell. Imagine the worst “pet store” smell, and then multiply by 10. The only reason it would smell this horrendous is if cages aren’t getting cleaned often or well enough. I tried not to let that bug me though since I mostly went here to check out the fish and not the small animals. I will say they have a lot of interesting fish that aren’t seen everywhere, but I definitely would not buy fish from here - most of the tanks were poory maintained and had very ill looking fish in them. It kind of reminded me of the Walmart fish section back in the day. Over all it was a pretty depressing experience, and I wish I wouldn’t have made the 40 minute drive to see the store. It definitely wasn’t worth the time and gas.”
