## About

Discover Aquatics Shop in Taylor Mill, Kentucky has built a reputation as one of the go-to destinations for saltwater livestock in the Northern Kentucky region. The store stocks an extensive selection of corals — from Zoas and Kenya trees to montis, Duncans, and toadstool leathers — alongside anemones and invertebrates that customers report thriving in their home reef tanks. One reviewer noted their anemone nearly doubled in size, and their Zoa polyps started popping new growth shortly after purchase.

On the freshwater side, Discover Aquatics carries what locals describe as some of the tallest, healthiest aquarium plants in the NKY area, along with mounted driftwood, rocks, and a solid betta selection that customers specifically seek out as an alternative to chain pet store offerings. The shop also stocks freshwater and saltwater fish across a wide range, including rare species for collectors willing to make the drive.

The staff draws consistent praise for their willingness to field endless questions — particularly from newer reef hobbyists — and for treating every visitor, including children, with patience and genuine enthusiasm. Multiple reviewers mention being checked on repeatedly during visits and guided through livestock selections with care. The store also ships fish, though some shipping experiences have drawn criticism for delays and handling.

It's worth noting that Discover Aquatics has drawn pointed concerns from experienced saltwater keepers about tank stocking density and quarantine practices on the fish side. Several reviewers reported disease issues after introducing fish from the store, and a few noted cloudy tanks or fish in poor condition during visits. Interestingly, even critics acknowledge that the coral systems are beautifully maintained and thriving — a distinction that suggests the coral department may be the store's strongest suit.

With competitive pricing, a family-owned atmosphere, and one of the larger livestock selections in the greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky corridor, Discover Aquatics is a destination worth visiting, especially for reef builders hunting quality corals and invertebrates.

> First and foremost, I've been doing saltwater since 2005.

My review of Discover Aquatics is you put your entire fish population in jeopardy buying any saltwater fish from this store. Open and honest opinion. I'm not a troll. 100% true experience.

It's quantity over quality with Andrew Myatt, the owner.

If you do visit his store, take note of how overstocked all the saltwater tanks are. A serious breeding ground for Flukes or bacterial diseases bringing in tons of fish weekly.

I lost my entire tank of 10 fish, many prized fish of 5+ years. And yes I cried over it all.

I was advised by Discover that the fish I bought (Naso) was "good to go" as they treated the fish I bought, even after i mentioned how overcrowded their tanks were.

Now, almost immediately after introducing their Naso fish to my population, my population immediately started to die off 2 days later. At first a 7in blue hippo, then a 5in Salifin.

I went through the pain staking physical effort to set up a QT tank, netting the fish, all to try and save the other 8 of out 10 fish... in a lightly medicated QT tank following a consensus by extremely knowledgeable ppl on the Reef2Reef forum. Medication didn't wipe out my tank, some disease brought over by Discover did.

Too late in a properly setup QT.... ALL fish died off inside 2 weeks.

Every morning was a walk of death from my bed to the QT tank to see who died. Gut wrenching.

I lost $1500 of prized-fish because Andrew Myatt takes the business approach of overloading, overcrowding his tanks in hopes of pushing quantity $$$ (not quality) out the door.

You are better served shopping:

* World of Pets in NYK (#1 in my opinion).

* Finspiration in Evendale is really top-notch too.

* Aquatics & Exotics is a great store with a ton of choices.

* Aquarium Artisans is knowledgeable.

My advice to you, take it or leave it, do NOT buy from Discover Aquatics, unless you want to seriously take the high chance of losing everything to some disease

> Came here for a betta instead of getting one from a chain pet store, they have a nice selection. A lot of the bettas are in cups but it’s clear they’re much more taken care of than what petsmart or petco has to offer. Adding a picture of my guy I just bought from them today

> Very nice selection of fresh water fish and salt water fish. Plenty of plants and corals as well. Very friendly and attentive staff. We were greeted and asked at a few stops on our path if we were interested in anything at those moments and if we would like any help. Once we were ready and had made our selections we were assisted promptly and able to pay and be on our way. Will add this to our list of places to come back to again!

> The fish died in 2 hours it was delayed and took 48 hours to arrive instead of the promised 24. The customer service was also very rude and I’m very disappointed on how they responded to me. It’s like they didn’t care about the customers. i’m very sad about the death of our fish. We bought a captive bread, yellow tang large also
the fish was small much smaller We bought a 2.5 inches. It came back less than that and then he said why are we even having this conversation? Is he like calling me dumb Very rude customer service also, I took almost a month to arrive. when we received the fish, it looked like it was dying. It was on its side, struggling for life. We immediately put it into somewhere nice for toys, but when I came home picking my child from school when I came back, which was like Ted, would you took me like 10 minutes it died and I had someone watching it. My wife was watching it. Always had eyes on that fish, but it died on us i’m very disappointed

> I have been to this store numerous times in the last few weeks, finally stocking my reef tank. I can’t go in this store without spending more than I had planned. (In a good way) I always find fish or corals and some inverts to bring home. I love this store. The employees are always friendly and I ask A TON of questions, as I am still new to the saltwater world and I wish to learn it all.

The employees always answer my questions and if they don’t know they make sure to ask someone who does know. I have good conversations with the employees while I’m there. They are always checking in to see if I could use help or if I have questions, which I usually go “I’ll ask you 100 questions” and It's always returned with a smile. A laugh. Or a hey, if you don’t ask questions, you’ll never learn.

The store is convenient to get to from my home or job and is super easy going.

My very first time going I took my children in. They asked questions and were given answers as if I had asked the questions.

The corals are beautiful. And the ones I have brought home are all thriving and happy. Minus my toadstool, but they are just dramatic. My Kenya tree has more than doubled, my Zoas have started to pop new polyps and just recently I brought home a monti and Duncan. All thriving and happy.
The anemone I got is beautiful. It has also almost doubled in size!

As a bonus. The rock I bought with the anemone and Zoas came with a black stomatella snail and he is SO COOL to watch move around my rocks at night.

I can’t wait to see what the store brings with the new year. You guys rock.

> I swung in with my family as we were out of town and wanted to check this place out based off the reviews. We weren’t greeted by anybody, the employees were more interested in talking amongst themselves - which i work in retail so I honestly get it, I do, but at the bare minimum even acknowledging customers makes a huge difference.

The biggest issue I experienced was the tank husbandry. Too many tanks were cloudy, dead fish, and fish in extremely rough conditions. Im not an animal activist by any means, but it truly was a little heart breaking to see the lack of care in the tanks. In almost every tank there was a dead fish or fish laying on the bottom actively dying. After some researching it appears that proper quarantine protocol is not followed due to prices, in my opinion as a consumer, I would gladly pay double the price for a healthy, well cared for fish.

With that said though, the coral tanks are beautiful and are highly cared for. The fish in those tanks are extremely healthy and the coral is thriving. I think this would be a great shop for coral related needs, but I would be concerned about the ethical practices.
