## About

Petland Ashland is a general pet store on the Kentucky side of the Tri-State area that stocks a broad range of animals — from puppies and kittens to reptiles, hamsters, ferrets, and fish. It's the kind of place where families stop in regularly, often just for the experience of holding a puppy or watching a staff member like Lexi introduce kids to snakes and geckos. Several employees, including Jalyn, Allie, Kylee, and Tatum, earn consistent praise for their patience and attentiveness, particularly when walking customers through puppy purchases or helping them find supplies.

On the aquatics side, Petland Ashland carries freshwater fish including GloFish, and at least one loyal customer reports buying fish tanks and livestock here for over 20 years. However, the fish department has drawn pointed criticism: multiple reviewers report ich outbreaks across tanks, with some losing entire collections of newly purchased fish. One customer had to file a BBB claim to secure a refund. If you're shopping for fish here, inspecting tanks carefully before buying is essential.

The store's broader reputation is similarly mixed. Puppy prices run high — some dogs listed above $5,000 — and the financing model, while convenient, raises eyebrows. Several reviewers note that staff can be inattentive unless you're actively looking at puppies, and stock of basic pet supplies is inconsistent. Animal health complaints extend beyond fish: a ferret sold sick with respiratory symptoms and a parakeet that died shortly after purchase from apparent stress are among the more troubling accounts.

That said, many families in Ashland treat Petland as a regular destination. The store is clean by most accounts, and the staff members who do engage tend to go above and beyond — Kylee even special-ordered a chocolate Labrador retriever for a returning customer. For reptile enthusiasts, Lexi is repeatedly singled out as the go-to associate. Just go in with realistic expectations: it's a chain pet store with the conveniences and compromises that come with the format.

> I purchased a ferret here two days ago. The ferret is sick, and coughing and wheezing. Called petland to make them aware of the issue and they do not cover sending the animal to the vet to be checked out. They told us we have to pay the up front costs of any diagnosis & then send receipts to someone to maybe get a reimbursement. We had even purchased their kit to extend the warranty to 6 months. However, apparently the warranty only covers if the animal passes away in said time. So instead of getting a sick animal they sold us vet care to potentially save its life, they would rather exchange it or warranty it when it finally passes. Having a child that loves this animal, exchanging it is out of the question. So I would highly recommend anyone looking for an animal, to look elsewhere.

> A good store for the most part. A little higher on prices than the other local pet stores and are often out of stock of items I’m looking for. Staff does not greet you when you enter the store like staff at all the other local pet stores do, so it seems less inviting than other stores.

> My little girl & I visit Petland frequently, we stopped by yesterday and was greeted by Lexi. Lexi offered to show us some of the snakes and geckos, my girl absolutely loved it!! It was the best experience I have ever had at Petland. Such a good time & we will definitely be back!

> Bought a budgie/parakeet for my little sister and the sales associate who caught the bird for us had very long acrylics and just snatched the bird up in my opinion too hard and fast, I mentioned that she snatched him up and she just proceeded to give me a dirty look. Once we got him home and opened the box he was heavily breathing with his mouth opened, terrified. I knew his heart was strained by his behavior as he began to faint repeatedly the following day. He decided to cuddle my sister and had a heart attack in her lap, she is now traumatized and doesn't ever want another bird nor does she want to return the birds body because she's know they will just throw him away. He has been buried and we will never buy from this establishment again.

> If I could take my pup back that I bought from there I would. Never buy a pup that has never been on a patch of grass before because potty training has been a nightmare. It has literally made me resent my pup because of it. I know its not her fault, but she can be outside for two hours then come inside and do her business on the floor. Thats all shes known is to shit inside. Worst decision of my life. I wish I could go back and wreck on the way there so I wouldn't have been there to purchase a pup that day.
