About
Aquatic Environments is a freshwater and saltwater aquarium store in Davenport, IA that has earned a devoted following across the Quad Cities — and well beyond, with some shoppers driving 90 minutes each way just to walk through the door. 6 rating across more than 770 reviews, it has built its reputation on healthy livestock, spotless tanks, and a staff that genuinely knows the hobby. The selection is the headline.
Reef keepers come for the saltwater fish and a rotating coral display that regulars rave about, while freshwater hobbyists browse bright, active tropical fish, vivid bettas, and axolotls. One recent visitor noted the fish weren't glass-surfing or huddled in a corner — just colorful and healthy — and another singled out the bettas as beautiful and vibrant, with no fin rot in sight. If you're hunting for saltwater fish, corals, or freshwater tropicals for sale in Davenport, IA, this is the room locals point you toward first.
It's more than fish, too. The store carries reptiles and amphibians — snakes, turtles, tortoises, and lizards — alongside a full wall of supplies, plants, and driftwood that several reviewers call surprisingly well priced. Need a replacement filter for a turtle tank or fresh driftwood for an aquascape?
It's usually in stock. What keeps people coming back is the guidance. The team walks newcomers through a tank build step by step without pressure selling, and one of the owners is known to sample a customer's water right at the counter — one regular credited that hands-on water testing with finally getting his R/O membranes sorted and his tank looking its healthiest.
Knowledgeable, patient, and clearly invested in the animals they sell, the crew makes this compact shop punch far above its footprint. For Quad Cities aquarium hobbyists, Aquatic Environments remains the area's go-to destination in Davenport.

— Greg Stecker5.03 weeks ago“The fish there seemed very happy, I saw lots of bright colored fish that weren't glass surfing, they weren't just in one huddle in a corner and then the reptiles all looked beautiful, I saw this one snake that was absolutely stunning. The prices for stuff is way less expensive than I expected, for the plants & driftwood especially. I will definitely be going back to Aquatic Environments for more stuff.”

— Kemryge5.0a month ago“I bought a hypo king snake from them 3 years ago he came with snake mites. Just rescued a rainbow boa and they said he came from this store and same thing had mites”
— Bryan Chinkk1.02 months ago“After several attempts and lots of money spent at this store, almost every fish I've purchased has had health issues, or died the next day. My tanks are fully cycled with perfect water conditions, and I don't have this problem anywhere else. Some of the workers seem genuinely annoyed with the presence of customers. I really wanted to like this location, the store itself is really cool. I have never left a one star review, but this place has earned it.”
