About
Aquatica Tinley Park has been a fixture of the south suburban Chicago aquarium scene for over a decade, and under current owner Joe, the shop continues to draw hobbyists from as far as Indiana and northwest Indiana's Valparaiso area. The store stocks both freshwater and saltwater livestock, with a notable selection of African cichlids, coral frags, and live aquarium plants that customers frequently praise for their variety and competitive pricing. Joe is a hands-on owner who has helped customers select 120-gallon setups, arranged custom tank builds with on-site measurements, and personally responded to emails about sourcing axolotls — a species that has earned the store a devoted following among those hunting for hard-to-find aquatic pets.
Staff members like Luke, Corey, and Graham each bring their own strengths: Corey is widely regarded as a saltwater encyclopedia, while Luke and Graham are noted for their warm greetings and willingness to go the extra mile, even staying past closing time to walk a customer through how their newly purchased plants will grow in. The store carries Aquarium Co-Op products alongside a broad range of tanks, equipment, and supplies. A 300-gallon reef display tank serves as a centerpiece, and the shop operates a rewards program that regulars appreciate.
Delivery service is available, with customers reporting on-time arrivals and careful handling. The space itself is clean and well-organized, though some recent visitors have noted growing pains following an ownership transition — algae buildup in certain display tanks and occasional staffing inconsistencies. Still, the overwhelming consensus across hundreds of reviews points to a store where genuine passion meets solid inventory.
If you're in the Tinley Park area looking for healthy saltwater fish, freshwater species, reef corals, or your first axolotl, Aquatica remains the shop most south suburban hobbyists recommend first.

“Super helpful! Some beautiful livestock.”
— Debora Pimlott5.02 weeks ago“Stopped in about a week ago to get some help with my RO system. Had some issues getting some of the parts open to replace the filters. Although I didn’t spend much money at the store, the owner took his time and helped me to get my issue corrected. Great Customer service is a forgotten skill nowadays and I’m glad to see this place still has it. Highly recommend checking this place out for your aquatic need. And although I don’t have any tanks anymore and just use the water system for filtered water, his stock quality is very good. I’ve had salt water and freshwater tanks almost all my life and if I got back into the game, I go to this place to fill my tank.”

— Russell Calabrese5.0a week ago“Ever since Snaggletooth Goby bought Aquatica and switched owners it's been on a steady decline. After my visit today it will also be my last visit. The tanks were dirty, including the plant tank near the front of the store and the saltwater tanks, and many of the fish didn't look in the best health. As well as prices for the livestock being way higher than others in the area. They also now only have one small tank for coral frags, seeming to focus more on the freshwater side of things. For the duration of my about 20 minute visit not a single employee acknowledged me. Seeing the condition of their tanks in the store are I wouldn't take any advice they have, because it seems they don't know what they're doing. It's clear the new owner and employees don't have a passion for the hobby.”
— Mark Solatka1.03 weeks ago“This use to be the best fish store around. I’ve been coming to Aquatica for 13 years and something has happened because it’s simply not the same. Most of the fish are sick and scratching themselves against rocks, the corals look terrible, half the store is freshwater now which wouldn’t be a bad thing if the plant display wasn’t cloudy. Use to be a great store sad to see what it’s become, will not be coming back.”
