Tucked away in a Lisle business park behind a bank, Reefwise is a destination saltwater store that draws reef hobbyists from across the Chicago metropolitan area. The star attraction is a massive 3,000-gallon frag pool in the back, brimming with SPS, LPS, and soft corals — arguably the widest coral selection in Chicago's western and southwestern suburbs. Up front, a jaw-dropping display tank showcases some of the region's largest tangs, angelfish, and rabbitfish, giving visitors a tangible vision of what a mature reef system can become.
The livestock quality here skews high-end. Reviewers rave about fancy clownfish, blue angelfish, and healthy invertebrates alongside showpiece coral colonies that range from beginner-friendly softies to collector-grade pieces. The inventory leans decisively marine — this is not a freshwater shop, though the owner has been known to stock sumps, bulkheads, and plumbing gear that even freshwater sump builders appreciate.
Owner Jim (along with staff members like Gus and Mike) is a recurring character in reviews, often praised for spending extended time with customers — explaining coral care, discussing tank stocking strategies, and being candid about what a hobbyist can realistically handle. One reviewer noted Jim spent nearly an hour answering a fifth grader's questions about reef habitats and sent her home with dried coral specimens and books. That kind of genuine enthusiasm permeates the shop.
A few caveats: Reefwise has gone through ownership transitions, and some reviewers have flagged inconsistent store hours and occasional inventory gaps. It's worth calling ahead or checking their social media before making a long drive. And the vibe leans toward experienced reefkeepers — newcomers are welcome, but expect the conversation to go deep quickly.
For saltwater hobbyists in the Chicagoland area searching for premium coral frags, healthy marine fish, and knowledgeable reef advice, Reefwise delivers a focused, livestock-first experience that's hard to match in the region.

Excellent LFS with a large selection of saltwater fish, invertebrates, and coral. Also has a very nice selection of higher-end fish and coral. If the massive, beautiful display tank in the front isn't enough for you, head to the back to the giant frag pool filled with tons of SPS, LPS, and softies, as well as some of the biggest tangs, angelfish, and rabbitfish on display in the region. The owner, Jim, is helpful, knowledgeable, and easygoing. It is a must-see destination for marine aquarium and reefing enthusiasts in the Chicago metropolitan area.

Best store around always lots of inventory. The fish tanks are beautiful example of how it’s possible to create a beautiful fish tank at home. Recommending this store to everybody that needs anything to keep their hobby alive. Even if you are not in the hobby it’s worth to go there and see all of the exotic layouts of the fish tank + the owner is really experience with so much information about coral and the fish. + low prices on everything compared to other places.

I wish I knew about this location sooner!! They have a lot of variety to choose from and the owner took the time to explain different fish and their behaviors before my purchase. Definitely coming here more often and making it my go-to place.
