About
Aquarium Adventure is a sprawling aquarium store in Hoffman Estates, IL that draws fishkeepers from across the northwest Chicago suburbs with the sheer scale of its livestock walls. Walk in and you'll find one of the largest banks of fish for sale in the area — rows of freshwater and saltwater tanks stocked with neon and ember tetras, zebra danios, Cory catfish, gold honey gouramis, angelfish, peacock cichlids, livebearers, and shrimp, alongside corals, aquatic plants, driftwood, and dry goods under one roof. Shoppers chasing a planted tank single out the aquatic-plant section, where one regular came on an aquarium-club recommendation and left with picks for a low-tech, heavily planted setup; if you want bettas or snails for sale in Hoffman Estates, IL, the team tends to walk you through it without overselling.
Much of the store's reputation rests on its people. Josh comes up again and again for patient, honest guidance on choosing and pairing fish, and newer visitors single out Vince, Rebecca, Gia, Kaitlyn, and Ryan for friendly, knowledgeable help — Kaitlyn even explained how to acclimate new fish and shrimp at the register and invited a call with any questions. Longtime regulars still time their visits around Rudy when stocking big community tanks like a 130-gallon build.
Beyond livestock, Aquarium Adventure carries aquarium equipment, tanks, and accessories — the team has special-ordered tanks like a Seapora 75-gallon and installed 90-gallon setups for local customers — plus fish food and in-store water testing for cycling questions. A membership fish club offers discounted purchases and is free to veterans. Service can run hit-or-miss on a busy weekend and prices skew a touch high, but for serious hobbyists the breadth of fresh and saltwater stock under one roof is hard to match locally.
Look for the help line near the front of the fish section: grab a spot and an associate will bag your picks.

“Vince Rebecca and Gia are all so incredibly helpful and kind. I came for a couple of beta fish and they have been super amazing in person and over the phone. They don’t oversell on stuff you don’t need either. Excellent people and you feel like a friend is helping you!”
— Christine Levin5.03 days ago“I perfee to support local business over chains. This isnt the case here. Do not water your money. I was building a tank for my 4yo birthday. I let him pick out the gravel and decorations. We were going to be adding them to a tank that had an established cycle borrowed from my other tank. The associate insisted it was "store policy" to test the water of customer tanks before selling them fish (for a cost of course) and that he needed pictures of the tank and it's placement in my home to ensure the fishes safety. He also made comment that I shouldn't allow my kid to pick out the decorations he wanted as the aren't safe (from their store) I set the items in my hands on the counter and left. Went to petsmart and found a decoration he liked better and got our fish.”

— Joseph Barrera3.0Edited 4 weeks ago“We just left from this place and I must give a shout out to one of their employees. Her name is Kaitlyn. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. She assisted in getting all the fish we wanted. She told us about each species as we asked about them. Talked with us about the different food and the difference in the food. She finished with walking us up to the register explaining to us on how to acclimated our new fish and shrimp to our tank and told us to call with any questions we might have. Again biggest thank yous to Kaitlyn from Hoffman Estates Aquarium Adventures.”
— Jamie Heady5.0a month ago“This pet store gone down a lot. The whole store needs a redo. So much empty shelves on the fish side. Also my son ask the employee on the dog side how much is this dog and the person respondent sorry I can't tell you. I was behind my son near him and was trying to get him to stop being shy and go ask. His face when he turn around looked embarrassed and red. So because of that expression I told him let's go to the shelter and see what we can find. He was shy to ask there but the staff was friendly and answer the simple question. How much is the adoption fee. They answer clearly. You lost. What weird policy do you have for a simple question? If your worry about pricing a kid ask then something is wrong with your policies. But no problem we won't come back any more.”
