About
Despite its aquatic-sounding name, Fisherman's Quarters in Decatur, Illinois is primarily a marine and boat repair shop rather than a tropical fish store. Located in central Illinois, the business serves the local boating community with outboard motor repair, boat winterization, wrapping, and general watercraft maintenance. Owner Chris and team member Monte are frequently mentioned by name in reviews for their hands-on, problem-solving approach — Chris once pulled a fully submerged boat from a slip and had it on a trailer within hours.
The shop works on a range of outboard motors, including Johnson and Honda engines, and has expanded into RV servicing as well. Reviewers appreciate the turnaround times — one customer praised a 24-hour repair on a 50 hp Johnson — and competitive pricing for winterization and mechanical work. The store also carries fishing tackle and related items, making it a convenient stop for anglers heading to nearby lakes.
That said, the shop has drawn some criticism. A few customers reported issues with trolling motor repairs, jet ski oil changes on Yamaha WaveRunners, and motor home trim work, suggesting the shop's expertise is strongest with traditional outboard boat motors rather than personal watercraft or RVs. Some reviewers noted difficulties getting refunds or follow-up corrections when initial repairs fell short.
For Decatur-area boaters who need reliable winterization, fuel system work, or outboard engine repairs, Fisherman's Quarters offers a local alternative to driving an hour or more to larger marinas. The store's fishing retail section rounds out the experience, though it's the mechanical service side that draws most of its loyal customer base. If your needs fall squarely within their wheelhouse — traditional boat motors and seasonal maintenance — the shop has earned a solid reputation in the community.

“I recently had a huge issue with my boat taking on water at my slip during the weekend. Lake patrol did their best to try and help but to no avail. It ended up being completely underwater. By everyone else's account it seemed like it was going to near impossible to get my boat out of the water. I gave Fisherman's Quarters a call in the morning and talked to Chris. From the beginning of our conversation I could tell that he was a problem solver. It wasn't about what couldn't be done, it was about what he could try to do. Within a few hours he had my boat out of the water and on my trailer. Furthermore, he helped my with my insurance and talked to them about my boat's condition. Chris does what he says he'll do and is a man of action. I will be taking my business to him from now on.”
