About
Reef Cleaners in Port St. Lucie, Florida has built a devoted following among saltwater reef keepers across the country — and for good reason. Run by John Maloney, this online-focused operation specializes in one thing and does it exceptionally well: clean-up crews and marine invertebrates.
From blue-legged and scarlet hermit crabs to trochus and nassarius snails, feather duster worms, Pom Pom crabs, tiger conchs, anemone shrimp, and macroalgae like mermaid's fan, the selection covers just about every reef tank janitorial need you can think of. What sets Reef Cleaners apart is the consultation-driven approach. Customers with tanks ranging from modest cubes to 320-gallon mixed reef systems report that John personally asks detailed questions about tank size, problem areas, feeding habits, and even requests photos before recommending a custom clean-up crew package.
That level of individual attention is rare in online livestock sales. Multiple reviewers highlight how John responds quickly via email and text, follows up after delivery, and genuinely wants to know how the animals are doing. Shipping is a strong suit.
Orders typically ship the day after purchase with overnight delivery, and customers from Arizona to New York consistently report livestock arriving alive, active, and well-packaged. Each species is individually contained where needed — anemone shrimp, for instance, arrive in separate bags with tiny structures to grip during transit. Clear acclimation instructions are included with every shipment, tailored to the different animals in the order.
Bonus snails are a common and welcome surprise. On the rare occasion that a DOA occurs — sometimes due to carrier delays or cold weather — reviewers note that John makes things right promptly and without hassle. The pricing is competitive, the animals are notably larger and healthier than what many hobbyists have received from big-box alternatives, and repeat orders are the norm rather than the exception.
For reef tank owners looking to source quality invertebrates with real customer care behind every order, Reef Cleaners delivers.

“This was my first time ordering from reef cleaners. I have had a few salt water aquariums over the years and usually I go through local shops or another online store. I LOVED the experience. Uploading a photo of my tank, what I was looking for in a clean up crew and quickly receiving a suggested, customized clean up crew was so cool. The ordering process, shipment and arrival was a smooth process. I could pick my arrival date so I could be home for it. The snails and Hermit crabs I received, 100% alive, acclimated very well (acclimation instructions included) and all are doing well. Clearly, reef cleaners knows what they are doing. The response time for any suggestions requested or comments made, very fast. I will definitely use them again and I am so grateful for this business!”

There is a huge variety to choose from, consistent shipping information and communication, and everything is packaged well. This is the best place to buy a cleanup crew, and the only one I will use.”
— Jennifer Kraft5.02 weeks ago“First time ordering from these guys and honestly I'm extremely happy and shocked. when i normally order from online and i tend to get some dead fish/plants/macros/etc. I got all the plants alive and healthy. Ill be honest, there was a SMALL amount of discoloration on a quarter of the macros that i ordered. I ordered about 17 different macros. The discoloration isn't their fault. I am sure its just for not having light for 2 or 3 days. I placed them in the tank and they are getting heavier colors. I have some clients that i do tank maintenance for and for sure I will be recommending them these guys. Very professional and quick to answer and ship. 5/5 stars hands down”

— Yohei Shimazaki5.03 months ago“Fantastic quality across the board! I ordered one of their clean up crew packages for a 37G cube. It’s been several hours since acclimating (they give very straight forward and easy instructions for the different animals) and as far as I can tell everything survived the trip and transfer. Excited to see them get to work!”
— Cameron Smith5.0a month ago“First time buyer. I got my shipment with overnight delivery. Everything was packed securely/insulated and all came alive and healthy. The colors of the hermits/snails/etc looked just like the pictures and the prices were good! I would certainly buy again when I need more additions! Also he shipped the package the day after ordering, so very quickly. Everything in the order was correct. Feather Duster worm, Pom Pom crab, blue legged and scarlet hermits, ninja star snails are what I ordered and everything was healthy and of good quality!”
— Brandon5.0a month ago“Great assortment and packed with care. The crew is doing well and got right to work cleaning the tank.”
— Mike Fogel5.06 months ago“I had a great experience purchasing inverts from this company. I ordered online, and was able to choose the delivery day, which was a huge plus. My order was shipped the day after I purchased, and I received it the next morning. Everything arrived healthy, in great condition, and very active. The inverts were packaged with care, and there were clear and helpful acclimation instructions included. They threw in some bonus snails as well, I ordered 21 and received close to 30. Absolutely would recommend this company, and plan to order from them again in the future. Solid 5/5 stars.”
— erika landry5.09 months ago“UPDATE: both tiger conchs and all of my trochus/nassarius made it through acclimating per the website's instructions. I even got a few extra nassarius which was cool! 5 stars for customer service alone. John was ready to answer all of my questions and concerns, and I can't wait to get my new inverts!”
— Heath Carnicom5.0Edited 9 months ago“I've just placed my third (or fourth) order with Reef Cleaners. Great outfit. The livestock has always arrived in great shape, shipping to Arizona. There's good info on the website as well.”
