A Hidden Gem for Aquarists! The Fish Barn in Orinda is hands down one of my favorite fish stores. A.J., the owner, is incredibly knowledgeable and always willing to share his expertise. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned aquarist, you'll leave feeling more confident and excited about your tank. This shop is truly a boutique experience—clean, well-organized, and stocked with high-quality products you don’t typically find at big-box stores. The selection of live plants is especially impressive, with vibrant, healthy specimens that thrive once planted. And the fish? Absolutely beautiful. Healthy, active, and clearly well cared for. Customer service here is top-notch. A.J. and J both take the time to answer questions and make sure you're set up for success. If you're in the East Bay and into freshwater aquariums, The Fish Barn is a must-visit.

Accidentally stopped by on a closed day for the shop but was still greeted by AJ who happened to be in! Great energy and super understanding, helped us out and I left with some new fish buds. Thanks a bunch! Happy to shop here :D!

One of the nicest fish stores we've shopped at by far in the Bay Area. J was so welcoming and knowledgeable. Every animal in this store looked healthy and happy and ever tank was clean and so fun to look at. The entire store is very well organized. We're already looking forward to our next visit!

5 Stars Absolutely love The Fish Barn! The staff is incredible—super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The quality of the fish is amazing, and the prices are some of the best I’ve seen. I’m so glad I found this place! They’ve got everything you could need for your aquarium—black worms, frozen fish foods, accessories—you name it. The selection is outstanding, and it’s clear they care about both the fish and their customers. I’ll definitely be coming back many more times. You’ve got a customer for life. Great job, Fish Barn! I wish this store had been around when I first started the hobby seven years ago! The Fish Barn is immaculately clean, well-organized, and offers a fantastic selection of small, healthy fish. The tanks are expertly maintained, and it’s clear the staff know what they’re doing—they’re knowledgeable, passionate, and eager to help. I’ll definitely be returning in the future and highly recommend this shop to both beginners and experienced aquarists. Orinda is lucky to have a place like this!
