## About

Ellis Aquatics in Compton, California has built a loyal following among Southern California reef hobbyists by delivering quality saltwater livestock at prices that don't sting. This compact shop punches well above its weight, packing an impressive selection of coral frags, saltwater fish, and invertebrates into a space that keeps regulars coming back to see what's new on the racks.

The store's reputation rests on two pillars: fair pricing and genuine expertise. Owner and staff — reviewers frequently mention Jason and Jose by name — are deeply embedded in the reefing community and make themselves available for questions by phone, text, or in person. That accessibility matters in a hobby where a single misstep can crash an entire system. Customers consistently note that the team shares knowledge freely, walking people through equipment choices and livestock care without the hard sell.

Coral is clearly the star here. Reviewers praise the quality and variety of frags, and many compare Ellis favorably to other well-known Los Angeles-area reef shops like Bob's Tropical Fish, Underwater Depot, and Deep Blue Aquarium. Beyond livestock, Ellis stocks the dry goods and equipment needed to run a saltwater setup, positioning itself as a one-stop reefing destination. The shop also carries staples like frozen fish food.

The atmosphere is notably welcoming. Multiple reviewers describe a family-friendly vibe, and the staff has earned trust through small but telling gestures — like texting a customer who accidentally left frozen food at the register to make sure they got it back. That kind of personal touch fosters the community feel that makes local fish stores irreplaceable.

One reviewer did report a serious ich outbreak traced to a blue-green chromis purchased here, a reminder that quarantining new arrivals is always wise regardless of the source. But the overwhelming majority of the 207 reviews reflect a shop that takes pride in healthy stock, honest pricing, and putting the reefing hobby first. If you're building or maintaining a reef tank anywhere in the greater Los Angeles area, Ellis Aquatics is well worth the drive to Compton.

> So far, I have to say it out of all the places ( Bob’s tropical fish, since the tropical fish, underwater depot, deep, blue aquarium, etc) The selection and exotic experience from this has been to the fact that some big quality or a purchase where the animal was dead the next day For whatever reason, they make it very easy. This is what aquarium hobby is all about and anyone who is nearby should definitely check them out for great selection.
